There are various types of depression, some which are caused by chemical changes in the brain and others that can develop following life events. We all feel down from time to time, however if symptoms persist seeking help from a mental health specialist is recommended. The first step for a specialist is to make a diagnosis, to then establish a suitable treatment pathway for the person.

To provide insights and answer your questions about depression, we hosted a webinar presented by Dr Howe Synnott, Psychiatrist on the topic of ‘The Complex Pathways to a Diagnosis and Treatment of Depression’. During this session Dr Synnott provided a foundation for discussing depression; shared the challenges with making a psychiatric diagnosis; and why there are different treatment pathways for the same diagnosis.
